Dylan
After leaving home at 18, Dylan set out to journey across the US, sharing the Bible and taking time to explore the wilderness. He enrolled in college down the street from my reverend's house 2 years later. Having travelled abroad, he also takes along his little ukelele, on which he plays worship songs. He lives and breathes for God, and when we met 3 years ago, his devotion to God and the Bible is what changed my life.
I was around 15, and contemplating suicide. At first, he thought I might've been mute and was a little unsure of how to approach me, because he knew nothing of my condition and the way it affected me. Eventually, he became like a brother to me, helping me experience new things and being there whenever I needed to vent. He's always willing to listen to me talk until his ears fall off, and whenever you come to him with a dilemma, he'll answer with Biblical guidence and scripture.
He's very conscious about how he eats (though he does love his giros!) and practices judo regularily. Judo has taught him how to remain balanced on his feet, which has helped him in his walk with God; it reminds him that renewing of the mind is a constant doing, that it takes conscious effort to filter the thoughts that are on your mind.
I don't think it was an accident that Dylan ended up in my life when he did. I was going through a "spiritual rebellion" at the time that I met him, having completely left God. Through my friendship with Dylan, I have come to realize the incredible scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 that says:
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
